Week 14: We Made It!

We made it, everyone! Week 14! The end of the semester, and the end of my first chapter with the S-STEM/TRAIN program (with more to come if all goes well).

The entirety of this week was spent prepping a presentation of the research project. I like to think I did a decent job on it - I'm typically a PowerPoint perfectionist and I will spend multiple hours trying to come up with a perfect font/layout/color/line animation combo - but I told myself to hold off on all of that and stick to something simple, which ultimately benefitted the presentation itself. No flashy graphics, just simple and clean data (which is something I probably should've told myself before I picked a gaudy late 90s Web 1.0 aesthetic for this blog).


It still took me an embarrassingly long time to settle on this presentation design.
It did its job, though!

The presentation itself went off without a hitch! Although, I'll admit that I did occasionally suffer from that lifelong problem of mine where I tend to talk faster than I think, which leads to me stuttering and occasionally losing my place mid-thought. But hey, we're all human, right?

I'm looking forward to continuing this project next semester and to see how it evolves; during a small Q&A after I presented, I got so many great ideas from my fellow scholars, and I'd love to implement them into a project in the future.

Besides that, that's all that's left to report for this semester. It's been a great one for sure, and legitimately one of the most positive experiences I've had in college thus far.

Alrighty, week 5 now. Don't stress out! I submitted my research proposal last week - which also doubled as my blog post - but I'm beginning to have some second thoughts on it. Well, sort of. You see, originally I was planning on doing a small experiment to figure out what parts of the face and fingers Face ID and Touch ID look for, respectively. I had this chart set up: This is the process I was going to use to conduct some experiments. Week 4

Hey, everyone. Week 4 now! Sadly, I haven't been able to work on my project much lately. My mom has been pretty sick, so I've been taking care of her. Thankfully it's not COVID or anything like that, but she's been under a lot of stress for a while and it really got to her, so she's going through a bit of a depressive episode. These issues run in my family, and I have them as well, so I know how she's feeling. She's mostly been in bed for the past few weeks, but thankfully she's been getting better lately! All she needs is medicine and plenty of rest. My dad, my brother, and I have been holding down the fort for her. Our dogs have been providing plenty of licks and tail wags as well. Minnie left us a "gift" on the carpet, so she spent approx. 2 minutes in doggy jail. (AKA just enough time for me to get a photo of her sitting still.) Hopefully everything goes back to normal soon, and I can still keep working on my project consistently. Catch you

Week 7: Bat!

Hey everyone! Before I begin this week's post, I do apologize for not posting last week – it was another rough one, but things are looking good once again, and my mom is in great shape and is now well on her way to recovery. Thank you all so much for all of your kind words. I really, really do appreciate them <3 So let's get started for this week! This week's directive was to begin making a pixel sprite – a small image – of a Mexican long tongued bat for the game itself. There's a few small challenges as far as making a tiny image goes, but my work process always begins with a sketch, so that's what I got done this week.
