Week 10: Bat! - Volume III

Hello everyone! It's Week 10 now out of...actually I don't know how many and I'm too lazy to count. But we're pretty far along.

Unfortunately, I didn't really get much done this week due to it just being hectic here at home (we're planning on buying a new new house a few miles out - it's super exciting and we're all looking forward to it, but MAN it's been a semester full of bad timing for me), so this week I'll just share a few facts about our little friend, the Mexican long tongued bat.

It's a miracle they don't get headaches from sleeping like this.

  • As their name suggests, they're primarily found in Mexico. However, they can be found anywhere between Southern California, New Mexico, and even as far south as Venezuela!
  • I've previously mentioned that they like to feed off of nectar from flowers, but they also like to get their nectar from hummingbird feeders commonly found in houses, too!
  • Young bats of this species are born with a little extra fur! This is mostly because these bats like to roost in cooler mountain canyons.
And that's it for this week. Catch you in the next one! Over and out.
